The Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. They are part of the National Basketball Association and compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. They play at Staples Center. They won the 2009 NBA Championship. The team is owned by Magic Johnson, who has been with the team since its founding.

The Los Angeles Lakers were founded in 1949 and have won numerous titles. Many of their players are Hall of Famers. Legendary players such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jerry West have played for the Lakers. The Showtime Lakers won five NBA titles in the 1980s led by Magic Johnson.

The Lakers were originally called the Minneapolis Lakers before moving to Los Angeles. After that, the team became one of the most popular franchises in the NBA. The team has a long history of successful players and has had some of the best uniforms in the league. The purple and gold uniforms of the team have become an iconic part of the team’s image.

The Los Angeles Lakers have made some moves in recent weeks that have changed the landscape of the franchise. They signed Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans on July 6, acquired Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram, and traded Josh Hart for three first-round picks. This includes the number four pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Lakers have made peace with their roster and are preparing for the upcoming season. This past season, they had a rough time making the playoffs. The Lakers have missed the playoffs seven times in eight seasons. In the 2010-11 season, they traded away Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks. They also traded away their 2012 2nd round draft pick to Houston in exchange for Jordan Hill. During the playoffs, the Lakers nearly lost a three-game series to the Denver Nuggets but managed to win the game in the seventh game. They eventually defeated the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals and claimed their 17th title.

In the 2005-06 season, the Lakers reunited with former head coach Phil Jackson, whose salary demands led to a year-long absence. Magic Johnson was named president of basketball operations. He was instrumental in luring LeBron James to the Lakers. Sadly, Magic Johnson was killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

The Los Angeles Lakers are likely to offer LeBron James a contract extension this offseason. If he feels involved in front-office decisions, he may choose to stay in Los Angeles for another year. If this is the case, the Lakers should reach out to him to discuss the details of the extension.

The Lakers are not the only team that will miss the playoffs in their history. They have a rich and colorful history. During the 1980s, they reached the NBA Finals six times in nine years.
